Practice Round Starting Times

Championship Information and Conditions of Competition

The Trans-Mississippi Senior Championship is open to male amateur golfers with an official USGA handicap (or equivalent)  and are members of Trans-Mississippi Golf Association member clubs.  The Trans-Mississippi Golf Association reserves the right to issue special invitations to amateurplayers of national and international reputation.  The starting field size is limited to 120 players.  Deadline for entry is April 23, 2012.  Any player issued a special invitation to participate (waiving the Trans-Miss member club requirement), must submit their entry form and entry fee on or before April 1, 2012 in order to be assured a position in the starting field.  Entries of invited and exempt players received after April 1, 2012 will be processed with all other entries.

Rules of Play

The Rules of Golf established by the USGA and published in the Rules of Golf booklet for 2012-15 shall be in effect, including those special conditions or local rules established by the Trans-Mississippi Golf Association for this championship.  Any notice or condition stated in the entry form shall also apply.

Championship Information

Entrants must be at least 55 years or older on or before May 22, 2012, have a USGA Handicap Index (or equivalent) not exceeding 4.0 in the Championship Division (8.0 in the Super Senior Division) and be a member of Trans-Mississippi Golf Association member club (membership requirement is waived for those entrants receiving a special invitation from the Committee).  The championship will be 54-holes stroke play with two divisions: Championship – age 55 & older and Super Senior – age 65 & older.

Golf carts are provided for all rounds of the championship (including the practice round).  The field will be limited to 120 players.

Entry Procedure

1. All entries must be submitted on the Official Entry Form.  Incomplete or inaccurate entry forms will not be accepted.
2. Entry applications must reach the Trans-Miss office prior to 4:00 pm, April 23, 2012.
3. The entry fee of $495.00 (paid via check or money order payable to the Trans-Mississippi Golf Association) must accompany each entry.  No refunds after the entrant has been assigned a position in the starting field.
4. Entrants will be notified if they have been assigned a position in the championship on or before April 25, 2012.  If the number of entries received exceeds available spots, a waiting list will be created.  Spots in the starting field will be offered to entrants on the wait list through May 21, 2012.
5. All entry fee checks will be deposited when received by the Trans-Miss.  If an entrant is not offered a position in the starting field by May 21, 2012, a full refund will be made by June 1, 2012.

Practice Round

La Jolla Country Club will be available for a practice round on Monday, May 21, 2012 from 8:00 am to 2:30 pm.  Confirmed entrants must call (785) 842-0155 or email golf@trans-miss.com prior to May 14, 2012, to obtain a practice round starting time, otherwise, practice rounds will be available only after on-site registration.  Do not call the La Jolla Country Club golf shop, as they have been instructed to refer you to the Trans-Miss office.

No practice shots on course permitted and only one ball played.  Golf carts are provided for the practice round.

Contestant Registration

Required contestant registration will be held on Monday, May 21st  from 7:30 am through 2:00 pm inside the clubhouse at La Jolla Country Club.  You must register prior to your practice round.  If you do not plan to arrive at the club until Tuesday, May 22nd, please notify the tournament Committee of your late arrival.

At the registration you will receive player gifts, updated event information and have the opportunity to sign the contestants’ appreciation scroll.  The registration will take you 5 to 10 minutes depending on the number of other contestants involved in the process when you arrive.

Groupings and Starting Times

Groupings and starting times for Rounds One and Two will be posted at www.trans-miss.com and at the club on or before May 21, 2012.  If you have a special or personal request regarding your tee times on either Tuesday or Wednesday, please send it to golf@trans-miss.com by May 1, 2012.

Contestant Information


In the best interest of the competition, “unbecoming conduct or behavior” will not be tolerated.  Entries are subject to rejection at any time either before or during competition.  Participants are also requested to observe host club rules and keep in mind that you are a guest of the club as well as a representative of the Trans-Mississippi Golf Association.

Dress Code

Players must be properly attired in collared shirts and slacks or Bermuda shorts of conservative length.  Gym, tennis or “short” shorts are not allowed.  Competitors are expected to be neat in appearance and personal grooming.  Contestants must comply with the provisions of the host club policy at all times.  Shirt tails must be tucked inside pants or shorts.  Cargo shorts or pants are not allowed.  Headwear, caps and visors shall be worn with bills positioned forward (must be removed upon entering the clubhouse).  Approved golf shoes are required (no metal spikes). Changing of clothes and footwear is allowed only in the locker rooms.  Please do not change your shoes in the club parking lot.

Players’ Reception and Banquet

A players’ banquet will be held on Tuesday, May 22nd at La Jolla Country Club beginning at approximately 6:30 pm.  Please note that for this function a coat and tie is requested for men.

Carts, Caddies and Club Storage

A golf cart will be provided to you for all rounds of the championship (included in your entry fee).  If you wish to use a caddie, you may do so at your expense.  No additional golf carts will be allowed beyond two carts per group.  La Jolla Country Club has a limited supply of club caddies.  Please make caddie arrangements in advance by calling the golf shop at (858) 454-2505.   You may have your clubs stored by the golf shop overnight throughout the event.  Let the golf shop know that you would like to have your clubs stored.


The Empress Hotel in downtown La Jolla will be the host hotel for this championship.  Reservations can be made via telephone or through the hotel website.  Phone reservations can be made by calling (888) 369-9900 and give the group code”Tran-Miss Golf Association 2012″ when making your reservation.  Online reservations can be made at www.empress-hotel.com.  On the left side of the website under Reservations, please enter the group code “TransMiss” and follow the prompts to complete your reservation at the discounted rate.  The discounted rate is available until May 1, 2012.

Food and Beverage at La Jolla Country Club

The entry fee includes the players’ reception and banquet on Tuesday, May 22nd at La Jolla Country Club beginning at 6:30 pm.  Guests and spouses may attend with pre-payment of $35 to the Trans-Miss.  A jacket and tie would be appropriate attire for men for this function.

All meals (breakfast, lunch and dinner) are available at La Jolla Country Club each day and are at the player’s expense.  Each player will be issued a temporary charge account to make food & beverage and any golf shop purchases.  The club will bill each player directly following the championship for any purchases made.  Please promptly remit payment of your bill to the host club.

Payment for Purchases

Players will be issued a La Jolla Country Club guest card with an individual account number.  Purchases may be placed on that account, which will be billed by the host club to the player following the championship.  This bill will be mailed to the address provided on your entry form.  Your cooperation is requested by making your payment to the club upon receipt of the billing.

Cell Phones

Cell phones may be used on the golf course to contact the Trans-Miss for assistance only.  No cell phone use allowed inside the clubhouse.

Driving Range and Practice Facilities

The practice range is available each day both before and after your round.


There will be a limited number of lockers available.  Please contact the locker room staff after player registration to have a locker assigned.


The player parking area is located near the golf shop and is the most convenient location for you.  Please note the directional signage.

Electronic Measuring Devices

Devices that measure distance are permissible in events conducted by the Trans-Miss, however, if during a stipulated round, a player uses a distance measuring device that is designed to gauge or measure a condition that might affect his play, is a breach of Rule 14-3, for which the penalty is disqualification.
